In recent years, transparent screens have become more and more common in exhibition displays, commercial windows, building curtain walls and other fields. Many people are attracted by the "suspended image" effect at first sight. However, to truly choose a suitable transparent screen, just looking at the effect is not enough. You must also understand its technical principles, its installation environment, and its actual cost.
What is the difference between a transparent screen and an ordinary screen?
When they first come into contact with a transparent screen, many people often make mistakes, thinking that it just removes the backlight of the normal screen. However, this is not the actual situation. The key point of a transparent screen is that its display structure itself has the characteristics of allowing light to pass through.
At this stage, the technological approaches that are in the mainstream control situation on the market are mainly limited to two types of objects: LED transparent screens and LCD transparent screens. Among them, the LED transparent screen uses the distance between the light bars to create a light-transmitting area. This uniqueness makes it relatively suitable for use in scenes such as shopping mall atriums and glass curtain walls that are suitable for long-distance viewing and have extremely rich and vast scales. However, up close, the LCD transparent screen is a method of replacing the backlight module on the back of the LCD panel with a transparent light guide plate to achieve a more delicate and subtle imaging effect. Based on this, it is more suitable for use in situations where product details are displayed at close range.
There are big differences between these two transparent screens in terms of actual performance. The light transmittance is between 70% and 90%, but the smaller the pixel pitch is, the light transmittance will decrease. Usually around 10% to 30%, while the light transmittance of the LCD transparent screen and the viewing angle have certain limitations.
If you plan to place a transparent screen at the entrance of your store to attract customers, an LED transparent screen would be more suitable. This is because it can clearly see the picture even during the day, and it will not affect the lighting and field of view of the glass after installation.

What practical issues should be considered before installing a transparent screen?
Transparent screens that cannot be hung on the wall like ordinary displays have extremely strict and clear requirements for the installation environment. First, you need to check whether the glass structure has load-bearing capacity. The glass curtain walls of some old buildings cannot be fixed with additional equipment. If it is forcibly installed, there will be safety risks. The second issue is the wiring of power and signal lines. Transparent screens generally have to hide the cables to maintain transparency. This requires reserving wire troughs in the glass frame in advance, or beautifying the exposed wiring.
Furthermore, there are certain considerations regarding the location of the transparent screen. It is necessary to consider whether the viewing angle is appropriate to ensure a good visual experience at different angles. At the same time, the installation height must be accurately controlled. Too high or too low may affect the viewing effect. It should also be emphasized that environmental factors such as temperature and humidity at the installation site cannot be ignored. Unsuitable temperature and humidity may have a certain impact on the performance of the transparent screen.
Another thing that is easily overlooked is the interference from ambient light. When a transparent screen is exposed to strong direct light, the brightness and contrast of the screen will be significantly reduced. If you install it in a south-facing display window, or in a location exposed to direct sunlight, it is recommended to choose an LED transparent screen with a brightness above /m². For transparent LCD screens, you should try your best to avoid direct light, otherwise the screen will appear white and gray, and the demonstration effect will not be ideal.
Maintenance costs still need to be taken into consideration. If the lamp beads of the transparent screen are damaged, or the LCD panel is damaged, the repair will be more complicated than that of ordinary screens. This is because many transparent screens are customized in size, so the manufacturer needs to send personnel to the site for door-to-door disassembly and assembly. Before purchasing, it is best to inquire clearly about the warranty period and maintenance response time, and do not just focus on the unit price.
Transparent screens that can bring visual impact can indeed bring such impact to commercial spaces. However, the selection and installation must be combined with the actual scene. You need to first figure out what distance you will be viewing from and what kind of light you will be viewing under, and then make a decision on which transparent screen to choose. Only by doing this will you not find out that you can’t use it after you buy it.
